Our services in French

For translations and copy-editing, we have an in-house team of highly-experienced translators who hold degrees in translation and interpreting. This team is supported by other professionals with the same qualifications who collaborate with us on a project-by-project basis. Therefore, we are also able to offer sworn translations in French from Catalan and Spanish (and vice versa).

Even though we do work together with external translators, the fact that we have an internal team and the right technology to aid translation allows us to adapt to each customer’s needs, managing projects efficiently and coping with large volumes of translation whilst at the same time producing high quality and consistent results. In terms of style, as well as respecting the main French style guides, we can adapt to each customer’s instructions on style and terminology in order to ensure that our texts are consistent with those already used by your company.

If you would like your documents to be linguistically excellent, in French or in other languages, don’t hesitate to get in touch with us. We’ll analyse your needs and recommend the best service for you.

French

French is spoken in France, Belgium, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Monaco, Canada and in former French colonies. It is the official language of 29 countries. Currently, around 75 million people are first-language speakers of French and over twice that number speak it as a second language. French continues to be the second language of international relations and it is the official language in numerous institutions such as the European Union, the United Nations, NATO, etc.

Uses of French

French is present in many parts of the world. Offering products labelled in French or services in this language is key to making sales because it is the language of communication in many countries. To influence buyers, it’s vital to communicate with them in a language they know.

Linguistic quality

If you present a document written in a particular language, you want it to be accurate in terms of grammar, syntax and language use, but you also want it to sound natural and fluent to the reader. So, even if the text is already in the right language, it should be revised (or in our jargon: proofread) to ensure a high-quality result. Texts written in other languages and that need to be translated into French should also be reviewed to ensure they meet the linguistic criteria of the target language.

This requires the services of language professionals with the right qualifications: with degrees in translation, or with demonstrable experience... there’s more than one way to do it. For French, the best approach is to find professionals who are native speakers and who know how to translate into the variety of French needed, because it’s not the same task to prepare a text for France as it is for Quebec. Both the language and the content need to be adapted.
