Translation - Dutch
Our services in Dutch
For translations and copy-editing, we have an in-house team of highly-experienced translators who hold degrees in translation and interpreting. This team is supported by other professionals with the same qualifications who collaborate with us on a project-by-project basis. Therefore, we are also able to offer sworn translations in Dutch from Spanish (and vice versa).
Even though we do work together with external translators, the fact that we have an internal team and the right technology to aid translation allows us to adapt to each customer’s needs, managing projects efficiently and coping with large volumes of translation whilst at the same time producing high quality and consistent results. In terms of style, as well as respecting the main style guides published in each language, we can adapt to each customer’s instructions on style and terminology in order to ensure that our texts are consistent with those already used by your company.
If you would like your documents to be linguistically excellent, in Dutch or in other languages, don’t hesitate to get in touch with us. We’ll analyse your needs and recommend the best service for you.
Dutch
Dutch is the official language of the Netherlands (which include the Netherlands Antilles and Aruba), Belgium (where the variant Flemish is spoken) and Suriname. There are estimated to be 20 million native speakers of Dutch. It is closely related to other West Germanic languages (e.g., English, West Frisian and German) and also to the North Germanic languages.
Uses of Dutch
Surprising as it may seem, the Dutch-speaking market is an influential one. Offering products labelled in Dutch or services in this language is key to making sales, since it is the mother tongue of a large number of people. To influence buyers, it’s vital to communicate with them in their own language and in their own context (by creating the right advertising for the local culture, etc.).
Linguistic quality
If you present a document written in a particular language, you want it to be accurate in terms of grammar, syntax and language use, but you also want it to sound natural and fluent to the reader. So, even if the text is already in the right language, it should be revised (or in our jargon: proofread) to ensure a high-quality result. Texts written in other languages and that need to be translated into Dutch should also be reviewed to ensure they meet the linguistic criteria of the target language.
This requires the services of language professionals with the right qualifications: with degrees in translation, or with demonstrable experience... there’s more than one way to do it. For Dutch, the best approach is to find professionals who are native speakers and who know how to translate into the variety of Dutch needed, because it’s not the same task to prepare a text for Belgium as it is for the Netherlands. Both the language and the content need to be adapted.
